AGAPE: A Greek Retreat. Bex Parker Smith 04/10/2025 - 11/10/2025
Inspired by the ancient greek philosophy of Agape (ah-gah-pay), Bex’s fifth retreat in Kefalonia is an invitation to really delve into some of the highest forms of yoga – bhakti (devotion) and metta (loving-kindness).
THE WHAT: Seven nights of yoga, community and connection
THE WHEN: Saturday 4th – Saturday 11th October 2025
THE WHERE: The wonderful Vericoco Retreat, on the Ionian island of Kefalonia – home to the most incredible beaches, the mythic Mount. Ainos and sweet fishing villages such as Fiskardo, Ammos and Argostoli,
THE WHY: The concept of Agape (pronounced ah-gah-pay) in ancient greek philosophy is a concept of love that goes beyond our usual understanding that compassion is simply a feeling. Rather, agape is a love that requires a conscious decision, a love that seeks the greater good of others, an unconditional love that is mirrored in the yogic practices of Bhakti (devotion) Metta (loving-kindness). Both practices start with the self, involving a cultivating of unconditional compassion in one’s own being. Once cultivated, we then expand these practices beyond the individual, they become a way of connecting with the world, with others, with all. As someone who has suffered with eating disorders and poor body image, the concept of unconditional love sought through the yoga practice, has been an invaluable tool in Bex’s recovery, and for her fifth retreat in Kefalonia, she will be guiding guests through asana practice, meditations, journalling, workshops and sound, to cultivate these concepts of Agape, Metta and Bhakti, so that they leave retreat not only a little more in love with themselves, but their communities and the whole world around them, too.
